DURATION
20.06.–31.07.25
OPENING HOURS
WED–SUN 3–8PM
PALACE OF UN/LEARNING is a laboratory for imagining architecture otherwise; it is a space of discourse and action in order to collectively develop ideas for a multi-perspective, caring, and a fairer architecture.
The term UN/LEARNING describes the process of questioning and unlearning established spatial practices. It aims to achieve a shift towards an architecture of multiplicity, empathy, solidarity and circularity. The curators Bernadette Krejs and Max Utech therefore create a PALACE at the DAZ, a transformable exhibition landscape of spatial machines and objects of desire such as the Furry Bed, the Collective Skin Curtain, the Tentacular Being, and the Caregiver, which form a playful infrastructure for an alternative production of space.
The international collectives EXUTOIRE, PARITY FRONT, MATRI-ARCHI(TECTURE) and MOULD explore new perspectives and possibilities for action in the field of architecture by negotiating, unlearning and rethinking the notions of WE/CARE/POWER/WORK while working on site and in public events: Who is actually planning for whom? How do we overcome the restless exploitation of resources? What becomes visible and thus a part of the architectural canon? And which design and planning processes in architectural production do we accept?

CARE WALK
featuring Elke Krasny, AKADEMIE DER BILDENDEN KÜNSTE WIEN
elkekrasny.at
With quotations from works of feminist and queer feminist CARE thinkers interwoven, the walk through the neighborhood of the DAZ is a practice to learn to identify and apprehend the spatial conditions of CARE: How can we better learn about the various kinds of needs in a space in order to take care of specific spaces, environments, or infrastructures?

What does it mean to “do“ architecture today? Well aware that it is not only about designing and building, EXUTOIRE delves deep into diverse types of architectural labor, asking, how can we work differently as architects? By rethinking conventional working structures and making us aware that architecture is an inherently collaborative profession, other modes of architectural practice are discussed, from advocacy work and activist agendas to shaping social infrastructures.
From 23.06.–30.06.25 EXUTOIRE will be working at the DAZ.

PEDAGOGIES OF THE UNREST: DISSENT, SOLIDARITY, AND CHANGE
IN DESIGN INSTITUTIONS
Public moment
featuring PARITY FRONT (Charlotte Malterre-Barthes)
– Event will not take place –
“Pedagogies of the Unrest” explores the possibilities for reforming architecture and design universities. Building on a decade of feminist engagement inside and outside of architecture schools, Charlotte Malterre-Barthes (Parity Front/RIOT-EPFL), co-founder of the global PARITY FRONT network, will initiate work around the topic of “curriculum revolution.” The PARITY FRONT network is a space for exchange for all those who teach, learn, and unlearn to achieve parity and diversity in architectural education.

“Rehearsing Collectivity” deals with communities and how inter-community can deepen solidarity and creates new alliances in the field of architecture. MATRI-ARCHI(TECTURE)’s residency creates moments of connection, exploring community and spatial practice by rehearsing the “call and response” method–an artistic structure in African and many global cultures to examine the structure of communities and their spatial practices. From 07.07.–14.07.25 MATRI-ARCHI(TECTURE) will be working at the DAZ.

MOULD / CARE
(Sarah Bovelett, Tatjana Schneider, Christina Serifi)
mould.earth / @mould_earth / architectureisclimate.net
“Architecture is Climate” entangles architecture with the conditions of climate breakdown. In the “Climate Conversations,” MOULD aims to bring together guests from different disciplines and backgrounds to share challenges, perspectives and ways of doing regarding climate and spatial production. This is not only about imagining futures—it is about enacting them—to understand that transformation is collective and already underway. From 19.07.–24.07.25 MOULD will be working at the DAZ.
