Renovation is more than a special case of new construction. In the former, the plan is determinative; in the latter, the existing material dictates all. The approaches architects take in dealing with this existing material are as varied as the material itself. Sometimes technical challenges are in the foreground, other times artistic expression or social participation. Possibly, traces of specific architectural traditions can be found in these different modes of working.
For the release of the latest issue of der architekt 5/19, architects
Donatella Fioretti (Bruno Fioretti Marquez, Berlin), Andrea Hofmann
(raumlaborberlin), and Andreas Hild (Hild und K, Munich) will discuss
(in German) different forms of renovation with magazine editor Maximilian Liesner.
